Weekend in the Andes

After “week 1”, with long and intensive work hours, we decided to spend our weekend in the Andes to refuel ourselves. Peter found a great spot: “Cascada de las Animas” (Waterfall of the spirits) in Cajon del Maipe, San Alfonso. Sounds good? Well I had no idea, but gave it a try and so we started Saturday morning a 3 hours drive to get there.

Upon arrival, I was just impressed. What a landscape, the weather was even better one can think of, snow at the peaks of the mountains,… it was just one single beauty.

Our lodges

Our lodges

Next step: Our rooms. We reserved some lodges, I knew that. But I was not expecting this… Each one had “his own” “eco lodge” (built eco friendly), no one looked like the other one, very individual and it looked just like in one of those mystery tales films. Janice was even associating the Oompa Loompa’s with them (you know… the chocolate factory…).

Once arrived, we went for a hike. I wont overload this blog with pictures (although I could…;-)), but just have a look to the Lizard, so you can imagine there were lots of things to discover.

Back at our lodges, Andy and I had a walk to the (very) small neighbourhood, where I found these signs.  Kuchenes!!! “Kuchen”, the German word for cakes, is often used in Chile. But this plural was new to me. I’ll love “Kuchenes” much more in future 😉

I enjoyed the starry sky at the night. My lodge had a bulls-eye right at the top of my bed. Next morning the team went to a rafting tour, which I unfortunately could not join, since I got a cold the day before and decided to take a break.

In the afternoon we went back to Valparaíso, where we arrived late in the afternoon on Sunday. Well recovered and full of new thoughts, impressions and ideas to head into week 2 of our #smartercities challenge.

Then you’ve experienced and seen a lot. As I always say: You did well. Yesterday we were in the mountains, the restaurant “Beautiful Mountain” and have sat there with a nice lady and her daughter together, as well as other nice people. Regards from Mainz

Well, Mainz is quite close to this. We have the Lerchenberg, which is a mountain as well. We have our lodges at the Cranachkreisel, we just do not have Schlümpfe nor Oompa Loompas. But we have the Mainzelmännchen! By the way… these little Mainz man are becoming famous in Chile these days… 🙂 greetings back to 19 and 17!
